At NorQuest, we support local creators and makers by sharing their talents with the world. Local Creations at The Core features handmade or locally produced products from Edmonton artisans, creatives, and entrepreneurs.  Explore the one-of-a-kind collections and support creators in your community.

 

                                                                                 

Diana Ohiozebau (she/her) was born in Leeds, England and raised in Nigeria. She is a mixed media abstract artist based in Edmonton. Drawing inspiration from her African heritage, Ohiozebau explores themes of identity, culture, place and social dynamics in her work. She skillfully combines multiple materials including natural cultural fabrics, synthetic fabrics and acrylics to create visually striking hybrid works. Ohiozebau's studio practice has been recognized and showcased in prestigious exhibitions accompanied with artist talks throughout Alberta.

Notable appearances include her interview on CBC Radio Active and CKUA radio -Edmonton. She has also had solo and group exhibitions including RISE Emerging artists exhibition, Edmonton Design Week and the 5 Artist 1 Love exhibition at the Art Gallery of Alberta. Beyond her studio practice, Ohiozebau is actively involved in community events and collaborates with local organizations and schools to bring art to the public through art workshops and classes. She also creates accessible and inclusive public art installations and murals for more engagement with the public. She believes in the transformative potential of creativity that enriches lives and strengthens communities. Ohiozebau holds a Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) first class honours from Ambrose Alli University, Nigeria, a Master of Fine Art (MFA) from the University of Calgary, and a Bachelor's degree in Education(B.Ed) with distinction and a Master of Arts(M.A) both from the University of Alberta.

Ohiozebau created 2 original artworks, in collaboration with The Core celebrating Black History Month, 2024. The artworks inspired a collection of totebag, mugs and postcards to sale. 100% of sale proceeds will go toward supporting the Shine Bursary for Afro-Black-Caribbean NorQuest students.

 Inspired by a shared culture of mutual support, Kindred Spirit explores the strong ties that bind us   together.This artwork expresses connection, strength and comfort derived from standing by one another   through both favorable and challenging seasons. It celebrates the confidence that blossoms when a   community shares their burden and offers support that sustains and uplifts.

 

 

   

 Collective Joy

 Collective Joy expresses the rich diversity, artistic splendor, and lasting legacy embodied in African masks   and artifacts. Each colorful pattern, motifs and texture tells a unique story that weaves together a tapestry   of cultural richness. This work beckons viewers to engage with the essence of African heritage     intricately interwoven within each pattern and layers of colours.
